The welfare of students is a primary concern at St. Colman’s. The Principal and staff work hard to build a caring, well-disciplined and industrious climate for all students. Each student is encouraged to achieve his or her full potential. Each class is assigned a Class Teacher who takes a special interest in each individual pupil in his or her own care.

St. Colman's is renowned for care given to students and for the level of mutual respect and communication which exists between its teachers and students.

Qualified Guidance Counsellors are available to all students to advise on subject choices, University and other Third level courses and Career choices.  They also provide help and support on a confidential basis with personal and social problems.  Fully qualified learning support teachers will also assist students who have reading or other difficulties.

To provide a balanced curriculum within which the individual’s intellectual and creative potential is developed to the full.

“Press for achievement” –we expect our pupils to achieve and pupils, in turn, our pupils find themselves stretched and challenged in the classroom.

THE PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHILD
To provide a firm moral and disciplinary structure within which a caring environment may develop and pupils may have the freedom to grow and to learn in a tolerant and united structure.

To recognise the importance of individual development, and to encourage self-awareness, self-respect, self-confidence, self-discipline, self-reliance and self-motivation.

To help pupils develop their powers of moral judgement, to encourage a sense of group responsibility, to broaden spiritual values which are needed in a changing society.

To establish a mutually respected policy on standards of behaviour required by the School society and to encourage the development of consideration for others, tolerance, goodwill and willing co-operation with others, whilst retaining and encouraging the capacity to make personal moral decisions.
